Darren Kroeker takes the First Adam Katagiri Commercial Pilot Award

To score in excess of 80% on any Transport Canada exam is a rare event—just from my general experience over the years in reading exam result letters, I'd say perhaps 5% or those who write achieve this. To get over 90% is an tremendous achievement that is worthy of a good dinner in celebration—we typically only award three to four of these per year out of a whole bunch who write exams annually. The Adam Katagiri award has been elusive to say the least, and while many have come close to the 90% mark, no one has rung the bell—and don't forget, this award has been in place for six years! Adam would have been absolutely proud of Darren Kroeker's achievement, but he would have been equally proud of all the young pilots putting their hearts and souls into their professional pilot training—including the guys who fall short of 90% wall!
We see a lot of guys hitting the books hard at the school every day for hours at a time, and no doubt there are others who are preparing at home. The Transport Canada exams establish a high standard and it takes commitment and dedication to prep for them, but remember, once you get the exam done, the rest is comparatively fun and easy—just flying! Work hard. Keep your eyes on the prize!
